Machine Directive (Machinery Directive 2006/42 / EC)

All machines used in Europe should follow the European Machinery Directive 2006/42 / EC. While many countries in the world have adopted non-mandatory certification of machinery and safety parts, Europe is based on mandatory safety certification (Mandatory) to minimize the loss of social costs due to accidents.

Items Subject to Certification

Machinery chain saw, injection machine, rubber injection machine, molding machine, semiconductor device, general processing equipment, hydraulic press, mechanical press, work lift, lift for vehicle maintenance, etc.
Safety parts Electric detection devices, logic devices, press protection screens, protective devices for rotating mechanisms, dropped object protection mechanisms, etc.

Parts Classification of Machine Directive

The European standards for machine safety can be divided into A standards, B, standards, C and standards. Products must meet all three applicable standards.

A Standard
(EN 414, EN 12100)
A standard that defines basic concepts, design principles and general aspects to basic safety standards
B Standard
( EN 13850, EN 13849-1, EN 60204-1, etc)

Safety standards applicable to widely classified machines according to general machine applications and purposes

  1. B1 standard is a standard related to specific safety aspects (electricity, safety distance, surface temperature, noise, etc.)
  2. B2 standard relates to safety-related devices and machine parts etc. (emergency switch, pressure sensing device, etc.)
C Standard A standard specifying detailed safety requirements for a specific machine or group of machines
